Meet my hybrid low step-thru scooter pictured below, a very comfortable grocery-getter or commuter for days when the sun is shining, and even when it’s not. The scooter has 80 kilometres of range on a single charge and can accommodate up to 30 kilograms of groceries, gear, or anything else you can stuff into it. Drivetrain features include 1-, 2- or 3- wheel drive and high friction V-brakes to stay safe in all types of road conditions. The front wheel boasts 500W of power while the two rear wheels each contain 350W, turning any steep hill into a breeze. For days when the weather and roads become less than ideal, I’ll alternate between front-wheel-drive, two rear-wheel drive, or all-wheel drive options. In moderate conditions on flat terrain, front-wheel-drive suffices. If the road is steep, there is a headwind, or if conditions are slippery and high traction is needed, rear-wheel drive is preferred. In the most extreme conditions on steep hills or icy, snowy pathways, all three wheels can be used to gain even more traction.
In addition to the technical features, the low step-thru is perfect for those with mobility issues. The scooter can also offer health benefits and lengthen the battery range when a pedal-assist is utilized. The pedal shafts have three electric sensors on them as there is no chain drive. This means the power level can then be adjusted for each wheel with three throttles. The two on the right side of the handlebar are operated in conjunction to control the back wheels, and one throttle on the left side of the handlebar controls the front wheel. The battery and controller for the front wheel are located at the front of the scooter, the rear is located underneath the seat. I am hoping to eventually add even more to this versatile rig with a battery generator on board to increase the already extensive range.

My wife and I use our hybrid scooters for grocery shopping and recreation. With rising gas prices we can save on fuel, insurance and it’s very easy to find parking! Our trips have never been more eco-friendly. These scooters have excellent maneuverability, very stable at 88cm wide, and ample storage space to fit the batteries.
